Really focusing on the weekends. You see, my mom and dad were divorced, so every other weekend my brother and I would go to our moms house. Remember this was in the 80's, so you can imagine what we did.
Friday, If we stayed with our dad, we would go to the video store. This was before Blockbuster, we had a mom and pop store called Pic-A-Flick. We would pic out a couple of movies each. You can guess what section I went to, but I did enjoy the action movies as well. My dad was all about action movies and of course western films. My brother was also into horror, so we usually got together and picked some good flicks.
After that, we would usually go to Little Caesars, or go to the grocery store and buy some Tombstone pizzas.
Now, if we stayed at our moms house, we went to another mom and pop rental store called Harley Video. I can still remember the posters for Screamers and The Company Of Wolves on the wall.
This place was my utopia. I loved it so much. You could literally find anything. I rented Trick or Treat and all of the Friday The 13th movies just about every weekend.
After the video store, we would go to Pizza Inn and load up on food.
We would stay up all night watching our beloved rentals, sometimes we picked really good movies, sometimes really awful movies. Remember, all you had to go on were the covers, and maybe a trailer.
If you forgot what it looks like, here is something to refresh your memory-
I can still remember you could rent a VCR and game systems if you didn't own one.
Man how I miss those days. I even miss Blockbuster in the 80's.
Even though it took out my favorite mom and pop stores, I still loved Blockbuster.
It wasn't as personal, but you still could rent some pretty rad movies, and they always had rental specials.
